The Gen AI Exchange Hackathon 2025 is the "Build" phase of the larger Gen AI Exchange Program, successfully moving participants from the foundational "Learn" journey into real-world innovation. This program was designed to leverage the Google AI technology to solve for India & directly impact the nation’s future by addressing complex, industry challenges through creative, scalable solutions.

The core ‘why factor’ is Innovation in a highly competitive segment. The program guided teams through effective integration of advanced Google AI technologies, challenging them to build market-ready solutions that demonstrate technical sophistication and genuine ingenuity.

The hackathon involved key collaborations with external bodies. Problem statements for the professionals track were contributed by partners, including the State Government of Maharashtra , NASSCOM Centre of Excellence - IoT & AI, JK Cement, Ease My Trip, and LVX, providing developers with truly real-world challenges to solve using Google AI technologies. Their valuable expertise and industry insights were instrumental in guiding the teams to refine and elevate their solutions toward market readiness.

2. AI-Powered Marketplace Assistant for Local Artisans:

◦ The winning team was Team Oopsie Operators, who built ArtisanGully, an Agentic AI-powered digital platform that helps local Indian artisans achieve business growth and financial empowerment by instantly generating product listings, styled images, and video ads from photos or voice notes using generative AI.

◦ The winning team was Team Skippers, who built an AI-driven Meta Automation platform built for QA and compliance teams that automatically converts requirement documents (PRDs) into visually traceable, regulation-compliant (GDPR-safe) test cases and integrates them seamlessly into Jira.

◦ The winning team was Team May The Agents Be With You​, who built a Meta Automation platform for cement manufacturing—an intelligent system where AI agents autonomously monitor, analyze, and optimize plant operations, with human operators overseeing and approving high-level decisions.

These teams were then invited to Mumbai and Bangalore for our in-person Demo Days, where the top teams presented live to a jury panel of industry leaders from tech, product, and design.

The Build Fest ’25 journey culminated in the announcement of our top three winners, each showcasing the power of thoughtful innovation paired with the right tools. FactCheck AI by Deepto Dutta, our winning project, is a real-time tool that analyzes YouTube videos for misinformation and pseudoscience.

The first runner-up, NeuBiom, is revolutionizing Indian coffee farming through AI-powered advisory and geo-tagged farm insights.

FactCheck AI taps into the power of Gemini to analyze content across video, speech, and context, flagging elements that may be harmful or misleading. With FlutterFlow, Deepto turned this concept into a clean, accessible app interface, bringing real-time fact-checking directly into the hands of users.

First Runner-Up: NeuBiom

Second place was claimed by Suraj, who built NeuBiom, a mobile-first digital companion designed for India’s coffee growers. Agriculture meets technology in this feature-rich platform that helps farmers:

Healthcare innovation took center stage with VitalsView, an AI-powered health dashboard built by Team Code Catalyst. This app reimagines medical literacy by translating complex health data into easy-to-understand, personalized summaries for patients and their families.

Using Gemini, VitalsView processes raw lab reports and wearable data to generate human-friendly, emotionally aware explanations. FlutterFlow enabled the team to organize this content visually across dashboards tailored to different health conditions, diabetes, liver function, cholesterol, and more.

Savour, a team from Australia, developed an AI-powered platform dedicated to combating food waste at both individual and institutional levels. The app uses AI to help users track their food consumption and optimize their inventory. Its features include smart suggestions for recipes based on available ingredients and alerts to consume items before expiration.

The platform’s mission aims to instill a culture of sustainability. It equips users with the tools to make informed choices while also fostering mindfulness about food consumption. The team envisions a future where every meal contributes to a greener planet.

For many, the aftermath of an accident means adapting to new physical limitations while wrestling with the emotional toll of feeling burdensome to their loved ones. These feelings of dependency can spiral into mental health challenges, often leaving individuals isolated and disheartened. Team BaldMann from India worked on Empowering People with Disabilities.

Bald Buddy, a dual-mode EEG band, is designed not just to support physical rehabilitation as well as address the mental health struggles that often accompany these journeys. Thoughts after an unfortunate incident can weigh heavily on a person’s mind, often leading to anxiety or depression. Bald Buddy helps break this cycle by empowering users to reclaim their independence while providing tools to monitor and improve mental well-being.

Best Usage of Google GenAI Tools: Ayu App

Ayu App aims to solve the issue of 3 out of 4 medical records being paper-based or unorganised digital files, and patients struggle to maintain lifelong medical histories.

Critical health information is often lost when switching between healthcare providers.

To tackle these issues, they started building a privacy focused app to maintain and access your health history and records easily and efficiently, to head towards an easier way to manage health records and an efficient way to share them with doctors.

Best User Experience: Noodles

Mental health challenges affect an estimated 1 in 3 people in Malaysia. Team Noodles understood that this alarming statistic underscores the urgent need for effective mental health care. Therapists spend an average of 10–40 hours each month on administrative tasks like documentation and case notes.

To address this challenge, Team Noodles worked on Empowering Healthcare Workers and created Case Crafter to ease the administrative burden on therapists and give them back valuable time. By leveraging AI, the platform automates essential but time-consuming tasks like case note generation and progress tracking, helping reduce documentation time by an estimated 50%.

The launch of the AI for Impact APAC Hackathon, an initiative designed to inspire innovation, empower communities, and address pressing social challenges through Google Cloud AI tools marked a great moment in the field of technology. This initiative united brilliant minds including IT practitioners, startups, entrepreneurs, from across the APAC region under a shared mission of leveraging AI for social good.

As the hackathon began in October 2024 with a vision to bring about positive change in the society using AI, we saw more than 6 million+ impressions & 1.6 million+ reach on marketing campaigns resulting in more than 22,000 signups from professional developer ecosystem of 26 APAC countries joining hands to bring this vision to life, creating a melting pot of ideas, cultures, and perspectives.

Participants were challenged to develop AI-powered solutions addressing critical real-world problems across eight carefully curated themes:

1. Empowering Healthcare Workers: Tackling challenges in global healthcare, from improving diagnostics to optimizing workflows.

The hackathon saw 1,227 teams submitting their solutions to make a change in the society, each centered on one of these impactful themes. These ideas ranged from revolutionizing healthcare systems and advancing education to forecasting natural disasters and fostering inclusivity for individuals with disabilities.

As part of the marketing campaigns, participants were invited to share a video in their native language showcasing their motivation, the social challenge addressed, AI's role in their solution, and the impact they aim to achieve through this hackathon. The campaign's localized approach highlighted the diverse perspectives within the APAC region.

Selected startups and professionals were also invited to create a short video highlighting their social contributions and outlining how they plan to leverage this hackathon opportunity to drive meaningful impact for social good.

After rigorous evaluation by industry leaders and subject matter experts, 98 teams were selected for the prototype round. From these, the Top 10 teams emerged as Grand Finalists, showcasing projects that exemplified innovation, feasibility, and potential for social impact.

The Grand Finale

The culmination of the AI for Impact Hackathon, the Grand Finale took place on December 23, 2024. This event saw the Top 10 teams present their polished prototypes to a panel of distinguished judges. The atmosphere buzzed with anticipation as each team shared their journey, challenges, and solutions.

The panel of Jury then announced the top 3 winners along with special mentions for Best User Experience and Best Use of Google’s GenAI tools.

The winning teams of the AI for Impact Hackathon 2024 highlighted the true localization of this global initiative, showcasing diverse talent and innovative solutions from across the APAC region.

Team Padayo Ko from Philippines chose the problem statement Tech for better Education and worked on AI to simplify scholarship applications, providing a centralized resource, personalized essay assistance, and test prep tools, empowering students to pursue higher education.

Australia’s Savour addressed food waste by enabling smarter consumption and inventory management. Their app analyzes on-hand ingredients, prioritizing usage based on freshness and safety. By providing tailored recipe recommendations, Savour empowers households to minimize waste and maximize the value of their food.

Team BaldMann from India worked on an affordable EEG-based band for India. This dual-mode device monitors emotions and mental health while also enabling intuitive control of prosthetics.

The AI For Impact hackathon received over 1,200+ innovative ideas, showcasing the potential to harness AI for positive change in various domains, including healthcare, natural disaster response, public services, environmental conservation, and more.

Building a Strong Foundation

To further empower the developer community, Hack2skill, in collaboration with Google Cloud, conducted a series of workshops focused on Building Applications in the AI Era using Gemini and Vertex AI Agent Builder. During these sessions, 7,500+ developers were trained, equipping them with the skills needed to create innovative AI-powered solutions.

The workshops delved into practical applications of AI, exploring how to integrate AI to enhance efficiency. Participants learned to understand the role of Gemini, leverage it with the Cloud Code IDE extension, and generate and complete code effectively. Additionally, the sessions covered the fundamentals of Vertex AI, including its search and conversation capabilities. By transitioning from predictive AI to generative AI with Gemini, developers gained insights into the latest advancements in the field. Hands-on demos of Vertex AI search and conversation further solidified their understanding and practical skills.

To ensure we reached a wider audience across the APAC region, the sessions were conducted in many local languages such as English, Simplified Chinese, Bahasa, and Korean. This multilingual approach allowed us to engage with a diverse group of developers and enthusiasts, providing them with the knowledge and tools needed to harness the power of AI, regardless of their language preference.
