Case Study: Enhancing Voter Turnout on Election Day Through Creative Engagement
Electhon'23, an ambitious 30-hour offline hackathon organized by the Election Commission of India and powered by Hack2skill, concluded at IIIT Bengaluru, India. The event aimed to address critical challenges in the electoral process, bringing together 35 teams from across India to develop innovative solutions.
One critical issue highlighted during the event was the low voter turnout on election day, despite the accessibility of voting rights. Many individuals choose not to exercise their right to vote, leading to decreased participation. To address this, there is a need for engaging and innovative methods to attract voters to polling stations, such as creating election anthems, jingles, posters, and other promotional materials. The challenge lies in finding effective ways to boost voter participation and ensure that more citizens are involved in the democratic process.
Introducing Team Millennials' all-encompassing Solution
The solution, proposed by a hackathon team and curated by the Election Commission of India, aims to increase voter participation through a multi-faceted approach. The strategy includes organizing full-day events, using crowd detection and analysis to optimize resource allocation, providing real-time information to voters through hologram or LCD displays, creating symbolic civic pride through indelible ink marks, and developing a metaverse election museum to educate and engage voters.
Key Features
Full-Day Events: Organize events with cultural performances, speeches by political leaders, and educational activities related to the democratic process to engage voters and raise awareness about the importance of voting.
